It has been a while since I last worked on my 18x24 inch fabric book titled, Farmer Kim and The Feathery Ladies. It will be 15 pages total and now I have 12 complete. I look forward to binding the pages together and presenting the book to the people. :)
A collection of everything organic and sustainable in my life. Artwork, farmer's markets, cooking, and working on a farm.

Shades of Eggs finds a home!
I made this piece last spring while at Wormfarm. During the early part of June I'd spend each evening watching the sun go down adding more string to metal. The kittens, Crook and Jem would sit with me and play games with one another and I'd take in the fresh earthy smells. I am so grateful for these memories.
Shades of Eggs, 8.75 x 5.25 inches, thread, metal, 2013
I am happy to say this piece has found itself a home with a lovely friend of mine. It sits above a piece from Project Onward that reminded my friend of her two chickens she once had, Winkie and Annie.

Relly Belly Woke Up Flawless
Page 12 of Farmer Kim and The Feathery Ladies is complete!
Her sunglasses and toenails have glitter on them because she is fabulous. The floral/pineapple/greenery fabric in the back is an old pair of pants from the 70's and the tag in them said Sears, Roebuck and Co. The pants were not in good enough shape to be donated but I couldn't throw them away. That pattern is too awesome!

Honey Bunny on a Cow Pie
Page 11 of my 18 x 24 inch fabric book titled, Farmer Kim and The Feathery Ladies is complete!
"There golden yolks are the outcome of their freedom to roam wherever they choose, enjoying compost, greenery and scratching through cow pies for bugs and larvae."
Honey's foot in a cow pie.
They enjoy eating, greenery, bread, ants, bananas...
...worms, strawberries, noodles, watermelon...
...apples, spiders, broccoli, onions, egg shells...and just about anything!
*They also like (love) dead mice but I thought that would be too graphic...

The Always Hungry Buff Orpington
Work in progress. Honey's favorite foods! Honey is a Buff Orpington. I am reading a book titled Homegrown and Handmade: A Practical Guide to More Self-Reliant Living by Deborah Niemann and in the book she quotes Lara Caldwell who says "The Buff Orpingtons were certainly the calmest and gentlest, even the rooster was a big softy who got pushed around by bantams, but definitely not feed efficient layers." page 116
That made me laugh so much because I always noticed that Honey ate a lot more than the other chickens and her figure sure looked like she ate the most food. Nothing got between Honey and her scraps and I love her for that!

Egg Diversity!
Page 9 of my 18 x 24 inch fabric book titled Farmer Kim and The Feathery Ladies is complete!
I finally got my sewing machine fixed but I did this entire page by hand. I really enjoy sewing and drawing eggs. So beautiful!
"The hens' eggs are many different shades and sizes."

Feathery Bums in the Sun
Page 7 of my 18 x 24 inch fabric book titled Farmer Kim and The Feathery Ladies is complete!
I recently remembered that my interest in sewing started with my Aunt Mary. When I was 9 she sewed sleeping bags for my beenie babies and gave me the left over fabric. I thought I'd dedicate this piece to her by using all the different patterned fabrics she gave me 15 years ago. I know she'd have liked my chicken book!
One of the little peepers is always on her own. The other three stick together like glue.
Turkey is never allowed to eat without being bitten by the grown chickens. She always hesitates and she is extremely skittish due to the many bites she receives throughout the day...but little do they know that she is a brahma and she will be 2 1/2 times the size of them all and she will stomp on all of them soon enough. Go Turkey, Go! or more like Grow Turkey, Grow!

The Ladies Burst Through the Door
Page 6 of my 18 x 24 inch fabric book titled Farmer Kim and The Feathery Ladies is complete!
Heneral Lee, also known as Brahma Mama. Her and Relish (the black one) are the gentlest ladies. They aren't (too) pushy and they don't bite others (most of the time).

Again, Soon
Again, Soon, 12 x 14 inches, yarn, jute, burlap, cheesecloth, wire, wood, 2013
I was missing my companion very much last night and this is what became of my emotions.
I'd be very interested in having an outdoor art show. Sometimes (most times) I feel my work fits better outdoors than on white walls.

Vegetables, Honey Chicken, Cat
Potluck Sunday! Donna made an amazing Moroccan stew with cinnamon and allspice. I made little blueberry hand pies that I forgot to photograph.
Red cabbage is here! I cooked some red cabbage, kale, mushroom and tofu and served it over Israeli cous cous. Cooking is exciting with all these vegetables growing around me. There are so many options and I am getting better and better at throwing things together on a whim!
Conquering the 4th page of my chicken book. This is the page were I introduce Honey. It was very difficult to figure out how to cut out the arms wrapped around Honey so I have been putting it off by reading instead. But today I decided I'd had enough and needed to get the 4th page going.
For this one I drew the image out then cut out the separate pieces of paper for different fabrics. Very much like a puzzle.
Sexy Crook. He knows I am infatuated with him. But he pretends he does not care. (He loves me)
