Kombucha

The kombucha 1 week and 5 days later. A new scobi (the white stuff on top) grew and fermented the tea. The old scobi floats in the middle of the jar.  Now I have 2 scobis so I can ferment two jars at the same time or share my 2nd scobi with someone else!

A week and 5 days ago it looked like this.

I poured the kombucha into air tight bottles.  I threw fresh ginger in all of them and some grapes in one to experiment with a new flavor.  The kombucha will continue to ferment in the jars but without any air it will start to carbonate.  I'll have delicious, flavorful, carbonated kombucha in about 3-5 days. Yum!

Craft Night #1

My first monthly Craft Your Heart Out was wonderful!

We came together and created, snacked, conversed and laughed.

Greer worked on little fabric earrings.

Molly sewed a watermelon onto a tshirt.

Miriam made little poms out of yarn for her kitties to play with.

Masani assembled found objects and collaged.  She had found the monarch and feather on her way to my place.

Alisha drew her good friend dead.

And I made a wall collage to decorate my bedroom.

I finished the night with a daily chicken expressing how I felt! And Greer left me a wee mushroom. My heart is full!

I will be having craft night once a month.  Join us next time!

Shades of Eggs finds a home!

I made this piece last spring while at Wormfarm. During the early part of June I'd spend each evening watching the sun go down adding more string to metal. The kittens, Crook and Jem would sit with me and play games with one another and I'd take in the fresh earthy smells. I am so grateful for these memories.

Shades of Eggs, 8.75 x 5.25 inches, thread, metal, 2013

I am happy to say this piece has found itself a home with a lovely friend of mine. It sits above a piece from Project Onward that reminded my friend of her two chickens she once had, Winkie and Annie.

New Visions Gallery!

It would be an understatement to say this year has been a difficult one for me.  But I am happy to say that I have pulled myself up and I am stronger than ever!

29 Feet Per Square Meter will be on display at the New Visions Gallery for the 28th Annual Culture & Agriculture exhibit!

The show will be up from June 29 - August 29, 2014.

Wedding Chickens and Cupcake Chickens

-John Soos

-Haim

Haim is my 2014 summer jam.

Kae and Eli got married!  Here is the card I made them.

The happily married hen herself.

A cupcake chicken for my cousin, Erin!

The cupcake chicken got a lot of attention.  I had a hard time trying to make a chicken just as good...
