-Nicki Minaj

I told her not to say such things but she didn't listen.

Golden Yolk

Golden Yolk, 14 x 14 inches, fabric and string

Inspired by the yolks from the Wormfarm Institute's Hens who were free to roam all day and eat all the bugs and greenery they could find.  You won't find a yolk like this in the grocery store no matter how "cage free" they say they are.

Placing the Feathery Ladies in Their Places

This is how the ladies and their eggs will be placed onto a big sheet of fabric that will be the blue sky and grassy hills of Wisconsin.

I made an apple core for Honey because she always came to me in the morning on my way to the farm to have my apple core!

Now all I have to do is finish glueing the backs of everything with wheat flour glue so they don't fray and sew them to the hills and sky.

Relish the Chicken Sewn and Chickens Enjoying Scraps

I finished sewing the second chicken, Relish.  My original plans were to sew three chickens, but I think five might look better.  I want to show the many different chickens.

Relish up close.

When we have scraps from the kitchen they go in a bucket.  When it gets full, I take it out to the compost.  The chickens have learned that when they see me, I usually have food.  They run to me and follow me to the compost!

My oatmeal with raisins had gone bad so they gobbled it up.  They really like mushy things like tofu and noodles.  They also LOVE eggshells.

Relish found some creamy goop to enjoy and she has no interest in sharing.

Honey likes to stick her head in the bucket to get every last bit out.

I am going to miss these chickens so much!

Relish the Chicken and Dust Bathing

I am going to call her Relish.  She is super curious but will not let me get too close to her.  Her face is so sweet!

This is where the ladies like to hang out and dust bath.  This means they roll around in the dirt to cleanse themselves of any bugs.  I love watching them do this because they look like they really enjoy it.

When they are done, they ruffle their feathers to get rid of the dirt!  Poof!

Relish is the next chicken I will be sewing together.

This is an Oriole.  They are super bright!

I have 8 more days here at Wormfarm.  I am going to miss all the different animals and greenery, but I know I will be back someday!

Daisy the Rooster

This is Daisy the 6 week old rooster.  I am calling him Daisy because when he is full grown he is going to act like he owns the hens...I'd like to take away some of his masculinity.

He came to Wormfarm two days ago.  He has yet to come out of the chicken coop.  I went inside and placed him in front of the door yesterday and today.  He still won't come out but at least today he was eating a lot of leaves.  Maybe tomorrow...

The hens peck him.  They can be very nasty.  But supposedly they are putting him in his place.

My two favorites.  They are like feathery dogs.  They come to me...sometimes.

She is always curious about me....but won't get near me.
