Earth to Table at the West Chicago City Museum

Today I took the metra to West Chicago to install Harvesting the Carrot in the Midwest and Harvesting the Strawberry in the Midwest at the West Chicago City Museum for the Earth to Table show curated by Anni Holm.

(The lighting was not set yet)

The work will be up from now until May 25th.  The artist reception is May 18 from 1-3pm.

I am very excited to be a part of this!  Anni and Sara will hang farming tools around my work as well.  I can't wait to see the end result.

Harvesting the Strawberry!

I finished Harvesting the Strawberry in the Mindwest yesterday.  There are many varieties of strawberries.  They are either June Bearers meaning they only bear fruit in June, and Everbearers meaning they bear fruit until the first frost.  I made a July month because sometimes they can grow into July.

The letters will probably change since they are so...blocky, and the piece is not set up perfectly since I do not have the pins I would usually use.

Chicago's Twelve: 12 Artists Mobilizing the Earth ends June 9th at the Zhou B Art Center.  But if you will not be able to see it, no worries!  Chicago's Twelve will be exhibiting at the Garfield Park Conservatory, August 6th, 6-8pm!

Drying my clothes on a line.  I have always wanted to do that!

Strawberries, Beets, and Mr. Daisy

I have painted about 140 strawberries and cut them out.  They will be attached to each other and the few months they are harvested!

Yesterday in the garden we thinned the carrots and beets.  We pulled out some of the carrots and beets that were too close to each other.  This will allow the ones in the ground more room to grow, otherwise they would have stayed small.  I sauted the little carrots, beets, and beet greens with some chives, garlic, and olive oil.

Mr. Daisy is doing well.  I took him outside of the chicken coop yesterday.  He finally was excited about all the green food surrounding him!

And tonight is the opening reception for Indulge at Water Street Studios curated by Anni Holm.  Diversity of the Tomato will be on display until September 8th!

Painting Strawberries

There is a strawberry bush right outside the barn which is perfect since I had wanted to paint some to make a "Harvesting the Strawberry in the Midwest" piece, similar to the carrot and potato piece I have done in the past.

I will cut these out individually and attached them to the few months that they are ripe and ready to eat.

The strawberry bush!
